VERNON FURRY APPOINTED VETS REPRESENTATIVE

Vernon A. Furry received an appointment last Saturday as Veterans Representative and Interviewer in the United States Employment Service at Rolla. The appointment came through the Civil Service Commission of St. Louis, while notification came via by Jefferson City. Mr. Furry served eight years and ten months in the army, being stationed in different parts of the U. S. He received a medical discharge in April of this year. He is a son of W. T. Furry of Caledonia. His wife, the former Miss Mandy Duncan will join her husband as soon as he finds living accomodations.

W. T. Furry and son Vernon...

W. T. Furry and son Vernon visited Sunday with Mr and Mrs. W. D. Cottrell at Dillard. The former is seriously ill of a heart ailment. Mr. and Mrs. Cottrell's daughter and husband Wm. Miller and wife spend a few weeks with their parents following their liberation after a 3 year inprisonment in the Philippine Islands. Their eldest son Floyd was also in the camp with Mr. Miller but just preceding liberation was placed on a ship which was sunk, as was notified the parents by one of the six survivors. His wife and two children remained in the Philippines at the home of her mother.

Boy Scout Troop 455 accompanied by their Scoutmaster R.H. Wilcox took active part in the bond drive parade in Potosi Saturday. Two Caledonia High School graduates home on furloughs also were in the parade --Sgt. Vernon Furry was colorbearer and Lt. Alvin Sutton having finished 48 bombing missions overseas, at the close of the parade and following introdution, made a talk on the courthouse lawn.

REUNION FOR SOLDIER AND WIFE AT CALEDONIA

A family reunion was held on Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Akers at Caledonia in honor of 1st Sgt. and Mrs. Vernon A. Furry of Camp White, Oregon, who are home on a 25-day furlough. A picnic luncheon was served on the lawn at 1 p.m.

Furry and wife of Camp White, Oregon, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Adams, St. Louis, Miss Mayme Akers, Mrs. Walter Ronald and daughters, Alma and Rita Ann, Mr. and Mrs. James Ronald and sons of Irondale Rt. 1, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Duncan, W.T.
